5 Feb 2010
Dear Parents/Guardians,
TOTAL DEFENCE DAY PROGRAMME 2010
Schools commemorate Total Defence Day on 15 February annually to mark Singapore's fall to the Japanese in 1942. Total Defence Day serves to remind our pupils that Singapore is defensible and is worth defending, and we ourselves must defend Singapore.
The school has a programme planned to commemorate the day on 11 Feb 2010 as 15 Feb falls on a public holiday. As part of the programme on 11 Feb, all pupils and teachers will be served sweet potato porridge at the canteen during recess. The significance of Total Defence Day and the reason for eating porridge will be communicated to pupils as part of the morning assembly.
In order for your child/ward to take part in the meaningful activity during recess with his/her classmates and teachers, we would like to request that you do not pack food from home for his/her recess on 11 Feb.
We thank you for your understanding and the support you render in making Total Defence Day meaningful for you child/ward.
Yours faithfully,
Mr Dennis Yap
Principal
