1. "It is a joy to be involved in the Reading Programme in OEPS and being a parent
volunteer also allows me to stay connected and involved in my child's progress and
experiences. The close friendship I have formed with other parents and teachers is an
added bonus. Volunteering does make a difference!"

2. As a full-time working mother, I may not be able to volunteer in a lot of
school activities. At one point, I felt guilty and thought of quitting, thinking "I can't
contribute much so why continue?" Following the encouragement from some
members, I stayed on. I only volunteered on ad-hoc basis and by attending the OPC
meetings which is held quarterly. My participation enables me to share related
information about the school with all the caregivers at home. Most importantly, my
participation 'wow' my 2 kids - 'Mummy knows what going on in school and what's
coming up next, even before us!' - Iris Lee
3. On a personal note, it has been a very fruitful journey as a Reading Mum since I
volunteered for the programme four years ago. It was a joy to read to the kids and it
was even more rewarding when you see the improvement in the kids. It was learning
experience for myself too because I have witnessed the "never say die" spirit from
some of the kids.

OEPS Family Blog
The Parent Volunteer Group created the OEPS Family Blog
The intention of the blog is to enchance(through informal communication)
the community spirit of those persons connected with the Opera Estate
Primary School. The blog is intended purely for the use of non-academic
discussions as a way to promote and encourage a supportive network of
Parents,Students and Teachers within the school.
The purpose of the blog is to provide the following:
- A method of communication.
- A tool for information sharing
- An area for people to make friends with others from the school.
